Style Points

  • Pop culture easter eggs
  • Oasis virtual reality
  • First level car chase with t-rex and King Kong cameos
  • No gravity dance scene
  • IOI break in and get away sequence
  • Final climatic battle on Planet Doom

Money Shot

The brilliant homage to The Shining. Included in the sequence are creepy twins, a garden maze, a creepy naked zombie lady in a bath tub and a blood spilled tsunami in hotel 237.

The Big Finish

Don’t blink or you may miss something epic. The legendary Steven Spielberg is a master of his craft and how he is able to stay this innovative and invigorating is truly inspiring. I would describe this project as kind of like a Willie Wonka remix that is stuck in the Matrix but way more satisfying. The stunning graphics and beautiful visual effects are worth the price of admission alone. The parallels between easter eggs in the story and the actual easter eggs in the film are clever. Afterwards you will want to go down the rabbit hole again and again to make sure you catch them all. My favorites are the Back To The Future cube sequence and the fucking Chucky cameo. This film is also not all gas as Ready Player One does pump the breaks every once in a while to tell great stories of self discovery and human interaction with technology in this evolving digital age. From book lovers to gamers and casual moviegoers there is something to cater to all audiences. Just lose yourself in the imagery of this fun filled fantasy ride down pop culture memory lane.
