Role Play

(Will Ferrell, Mark Whalberg, Mel Gibson, John Lithgow, John Cena, Linda Cardellini, Alessandra Ambrosio, Didi Costine, Scarlett Estevez, Owen Vaccaro)

The cast had great chemistry continuing from the last film between the two main characters Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg. I could buy John Lithgow and Will Ferrel’s as being father and son. The kiss scene between the two was over the top but effective. Mel Gibson played his part perfect as the bad influence and Linda Cardellini was excellent as the caring mother. I was very impressed by the child actors who were able to hold their own next to such industry heavyweights. The only place where this film comes up short for me was in the humor department which is bad for a comedy. Majority of the jokes were not funny as they seemed to forced as the film relied mainly on injuring the characters for cheap laughs.

Dylan is confused by all of the elders guidance and kisses his stepsister Adrianna on the lips. Adrianna’s father Roger is infuriated and threatens to take his daughter away from her other side of the family. Dusty intervenes finally admitting to his step daughter that he loves her something he should have said a long time ago. Dusty convinces Roger to let Adrianna stay and are able to put their differences aside and sing a christmas song together in a movie theater.

Final Touch

While not as funny as the first Daddy’s Home 2 does provide some laughter throughout that is worth a look. Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg have amazing chemistry and the big name cast have notable performances. There were also good themes such as the struggles of co parenting and making the most out of a second opportunity. They say comedy is tragedy happening to other people as Will Ferrel was the but of all jokes. Whether it was the kid on the eswing, the tree cutting scene or spilling hot cocoa on himself this film relied on torturing their leading man for comedy where the jokes continued to fall flat. Daddy’s Home 2 is a predictable unnecessary sequel but still fun for the family to experience for the holidays.
